Playing in an higher youth grade

In some cases, a player may be invited to play in an higher youth grade.

The opportunity to play at a higher grade is entirely at the discretion of the Dunedin Head Coach.

Our main concerns is the enjoyment and safety of all players. Our head coach has considerable experience in evaluating players and tries his best to provide a fun and challenging playing environment for all players.

Criteria used to determined if a player can play in an upper grade

When deciding if a player will be allowed to play in an upper grade our head coach will consider 3 key criteria:

  • the weight and height of the player relative to other player in the grade ;
  • the skill level of the player relative to other player in the grade ;
  • the number of players on the team.

Kiwi-hockey players who wish to move to an upper-grade must also be ready to transition to full ice games. This involves having a basic understanding of full ice rules, face off positioning and team tactics.
