Dunedin Ice Hockey Association Opportunity Fund

The Dunedin Ice Hockey Association board would like to announce the opening of this fund. This has come about as the result of a couple of things.

1. Some members of the DIHA are unable to take up ice hockey opportunities due to a lack of finances.

2. Some senior club members have expressed an interest in making regular or one off donations to the club. This is in the main to assist young players who are having trouble affording the costs of ice hockey.

 

The fund consists of a bank account that members and sponsors can make one-off or regular payments into. The account number is 06-0911-0025989-35 if you wish to donate. This will also appear on club hub when you sign up if you wish to donate.

The fund is for the purpose of:

Financially assisting members who wish to play Ice Hockey or achieve Ice Hockey at a higher level, but are unable to do so due to restricted money.

• The primary purpose of the fund is to assist members to attend club training, training camps or other development programs, where finances would not allow them to attend otherwise.

• The fund shall aim to give as much benefit as possible to as many members as possible, so shall normally support the payment of costs of attending programs, rather than travel or accommodation.

• The fund is available primarily for players, but also officials, coaches, administrators etc. The relative ability of applicants is not a matter of concern.

• It will not be available for DIHA membership, or any local games such as DIHL. Club nights, etc.

• Commitment to club activities (particularly fundraising opportunities and evidence of a long term commitment to the sport) shall be considered when deciding whether to allocate funds.

• The fund will usually pay out a maximum of half the costs of any activity. This will be at the discretion of the subcommittee.

Allocation from the fund will be made by a sub-committee of the board consisting of three members. These three members will be the President, VP Youth, and the club secretary. The sub-committee will report back to board meetings about amounts allocated. Names and amounts will be retained by the DIHA secretary.

The club is not obliged to make any payments from the fund each year. Payments will only be paid if funds are available to do so.

I’d like to encourage all those that feel the need to take advantage of this opportunity, to do so. This fund is a sign of a club that cares deeply about its members. It is our desire that all kids have the chance to participate in Ice Hockey no matter what the family financial circumstances are.
