February 2013 Newsletter

From the President

Hi everyone, and welcome to a new season of Dunedin Ice Hockey. The club is looking forward to another exciting season of trainings, games, rep leagues, and further opportunities to pursue the sport that we all love.

The season kicks off next week with term 1 development for the kids, and powerskating training for all club members. We want to encourage you all to register, sign up for practices, pay your bill, and get out on the ice.

Not everyone had a break from hockey over the summer. Tristan Darling and Ben Roth were in Bulgaria last month with the NZ U20 team where they earnt a bronze medal. Lots of club members have made the Ice Fernz, NZ U18, and Ice Blacks teams, and we wish all these players well with their international season.

The club continues to welcome your feedback and suggestions. Please email me on president@dunedinicehockey.hellyer.kiwi .

Regards,

Pete Wallis

President

Registration 2013

Club hub is now open for registration for 2013. To register:

1. Go to the club hub site: https://www.clubhubssl.com/hubsystem/index.php?&fuseaction=register.options&callclub=DIHA&cset=Y

2. Click login

3. Enter your username and password (if you have forgotten these click the link below and enter your email address)

4. Update your details with any changes

5. Choose the league you wish to register in

6. Add any other family members

7. Confirm you wish to continue

8. Add any details in the volunteer boxes

9. Select the practices and leagues that you wish to add to your registration (Peewees and Midgets will automatically have their term 2 and 3 practices added, so you do not need to add this here)

10. Confirm that you wish to complete your registration.

11. Click on ‘Make Payment’ to see how much you owe and instructions for paying it.

Note, if you owe or are owed money from the end of 2012 season, this will not appear in your account until it is added manually. We haven’t forgotten you however! Reply to this email if you’d like that added or taken off before you pay your bill.

Payment

Signing up to the club and associated practices and games is a commitment to pay those bills promptly. Once you have completed registration, please forward the money owed as soon as possible to the club, either by dropping off a cheque to your manager, or by internet banking:

Dunedin Ice Hockey Association (Inc)

National Bank of NZ, South Dunedin Branch

060911 0025989 00

Make sure you include the reference that club hub gives you or your name. We can’t put the payment into your account if we don’t know who you are!

The club has had to devote considerable efforts in the past to chasing up members who are not paying these bills. This is not fair on members who are supporting the club and the costs associated with it by paying up. Please make a payment immediately.

If you are unable to pay the full bill owed immediately, please contact the DIHA Teasurer Michael Johnston, treasurer@dunedinicehockey.hellyer.kiwi to be put on a payment plan.

The club will unfortunately not hesitate to exclude from the ice players who are unable to pay their bills.

Hockey Coming Up

Term 1 Youth Development

Term 1 development for peewee and midget players begins next week. Off-ice training begins on 11 February (6pm peewees, 7pm midgets/juniors), on-ice training begins 14 February (6pm peewees, 7pm midgets/juniors). Note that Janos has asked players to stay in the same group for term one as they were in 2012. So kids born in 2000 will remain in the peewee group for term 1, before coming up to midgets for the main training in terms 2 and 3. Sign up now on club hub and turn up on Monday ready for training.

Powerskating

The club is instituting a new training session this season, starting on Tuesday 12th February at 7pm and running for six weeks. This session is for all ages and abilities, and will focus on better skating skills – stops, starts, turns, edges, power, speed and agility. A great way to improve your base this season. Sign up now on club hub.

Premier League

Starting at the beginning of March, this senior contact league is a good pre-season hit out. Six games for $72. All males born in 1997 or earlier welcome. Younger players able to play by invitation. Games will be Wednesday nights. Sign up now on club hub.

Autumn DIHL

For everyone who doesn’t want to play checking hockey, sign up for some good quality non-checking hockey. Moving to Sunday nights this season, players of all levels welcome, you’ll be put into teams. 7 weeks of games starting on Sunday 10th March. Sign up by 5th March to make sure you get into a team.

Southern Ice Hockey League Open Grade

Southern Ice Hockey League is investigating restarting a senior open grade checking competition for players not in NZIHL teams. This competition will involve players born in 1997 (turning 16 in 2013) and older, and will run April – August at the rinks around the region. Anyone who is interested in playing please reply to this email.

School Holiday Programmes

There will be no DIHA run school holiday programme in the April school holidays. However the NZIHF is running a programme with the visiting Swedish coaches that visited us briefly last year. This will take place from 16-22 April and is a fantastic opportunity for Midget and Peewee players to receive top international coaching. Further information to come.

The next DIHA holiday programme will be 15 – 19 July.
