February 2012 Newsletter

(Please note, most of the information in this email concerns registrations, but there is information for players interested in participating in Thunder in 2012, and also for parents of children born in July 1999 – June 2001 at the bottom)

2012 Registrations Now Open

Registrations for all players for the 2012 season are now open. Returning or new players need to visit:

https://www.clubhubssl.com/hubsystem/index.php?&fuseaction=register.options&callclub=DIHA

(also available from www.dunedinicehockey.hellyer.kiwi front page) and choose ‘Login’ if returning, or ‘Register’ if new to the club.

You need to register to get assigned to your team/s, informed about practices, games, and to have the opportunity to sign up for social leagues.

Registration & Gear Night

New players in particular are asked to attend a registration night on Sunday 26th February, at 5pm at the Dunedin Ice Stadium. This will enable you to discuss your options for the season, meet your manager and coaches.

The registration night will also function as a buy/sell for gear. If you have gear that you are looking to sell bring it that night clearly labelled with a price and if you need to purchase gear, bring some cash and see what deals you can pick up.

Lastly, the registration night is also an opportunity for players who need to borrow club gear for the season to visit the gear room and the club volunteers will assist you to get kitted out for the season. You will need to bring $90 which covers gear bond and hire costs for the season.

Registration Fees

The club has made a couple of changes to the way registration fees work for 2012:

Family Discount

If your family has more than one youth player registered and attending practices, the second and subsequent child is eligible for a 2nd+ in family discount. This reduces the cost of the second and subsequent children from $430 to $350 for the season. Only junior members are eligible, and only if they are signed up for a practice. U19s may qualify if they are signed up for an SNC practice (as the club does not run U19 practices at present).

Practice Costs

Practices for all grades have been set at $350. This is typically a reflection of increased ice time costs from additional sessions that the club is putting on for all grades. If you have any concerns about the costs or wish to arrange to pay via automatic payment, please contact Joyce Miller on secretary@dunedinicehockey.hellyer.kiwi.

Peewees/Midgets

For all U16 players, excluding Kiwihockey players, the registration and practice fees are now combined. Previously you had to register and then add on your practice costs – you no longer need to do this second step. Registration is therefore $430 ($80 junior registration plus $350 practice fee). These practices begin in term 2, and finish at the end of term 3. There will be additional ice time and practices this season – previously 37 ice sessions, now 40 ice sessions and 20 off-ice trainings. All trainings will be on Tuesday and Thursday nights.

Juniors

Registration for Juniors is $80. The club is not running U19 practices this season, but U19s are invited to attend an appropriate SNC session for $250 for 28 practices. Appropriate players are also encouraged to become involved with Dunedin Thunder practices (see below for more information).

SNC

Senior players (born in 1993 or earlier) pay $100 full registration (for those playing inter-club hockey such as Southern Ice Hockey League, Easton Cup, Erewhon Cup) or $50 (for those only wishing to play club hockey within Dunedin.

SNC practices have been split into two grades – A for higher level players on Thursday, and B for intermediate players on Sunday. Both practices run for 28 weeks, and cost $350 for the season. Casual attendance is $15/week.

Womens

Senior women (born in 1993 or earlier) pay $100 full registration. Junior women (born in 1994 or later) pay $80 junior registration. The club will be running a 28 week schedule of womens practices in the upcoming season, which will be Sunday nights at 6.30pm.

Adult Beginners

Adult beginners will continue to pay casually at practices, $12/night, and are not required to be members if adult beginners is the only club activity that they are attending.

Thunder Open Trainings/Trial

Hey Guys

This season the Thunder will be running open trainings for the pre-season which will act as a trial. This will begin on February 14th and run until March 29th. Trainings will be held every Tuesday and Thursday night at 9pm during this period at the Dunedin Ice Stadium.

There will also be a off-ice session with the times to be determined.

(As the levels of these trainings need to be kept to a reasonable standard, there will be a review after the first week, to make sure all those attending meet the standard.)

To attend these trainings $200 in cash or cheque must be paid to Graeme Wilson on the 1st night. If after the first week you haven’t meet the standard you will be refunded $180.

After the 29th of March the final squad will announced, the fees for this year have been set at $1100 for the first 22, and $600 for the 5th liners.

For those that make the squad, the $200 you have paid for preseason, will act as your initial deposit on your fees.

Please feel free to contact me with any queries about this at abryant@maths.otago.ac.nz or on 021315626
