Dunedin Penguins win 2009 Easton Cup

In a topsy turvy final, the Dunedin Penguins took the Easton Cup in a thrilling final over the Dunedin Thunder. From 4-0 down late in the second, the Penguins got the Thunder into penalty trouble in the third and got a late equaliser which put the game into extra time. With the Thunder shorthanded due to a delay of game penalty right at the buzzer, the Penguins capitalised and won the game early in the overtime session. The game was a repeat over the earlier dominance of the Penguins over the Thunder, with the round-robin match between the two teams being a 2-0 victory for the Penguins.

The game was the climax of a successful tournament over the weekend at which 18 games were played. Final standings were:

1. Dunedin Penguins
2. Dunedin Thunder
3. Southern Juniors
4. Gore Grizzlies
5. Dunedin Juniors
6. Dunedin Beasts

Thanks to all the officials, on and off ice, and all the teams for a successful weekend of ice hockey.
