Dunedin Ice Hockey Association

U15 (2002-2005) Friendship Tournament, 23-24 January 2017

The competition has been planned to coincide with the 2017 IIHF Ice Hockey U20 World Championship Division III Dunedin, New Zealand, 16-22 January. The competition will commence 7.30 am, Monday 23 January.

We anticipate visiting teams to join us at the U20 World final playoff Sunday 22 January 8.00pm  

The tournament is aimed at promoting friendly competition and building relationships for our junior players.

Tournament Format

1. Teams consist of three lines determined by age:
   1. 1st line-2002/2003
   2. 2nd line-2003/2004
   3. 3rd line-2004/2005
2. All lines will be contact, but full checking will not be permitted  
3. All goal tenders will be 2003 or younger
   1. Exception for 2001 female players applies.
4. Players are permitted to move upwards (older age level) as selected by the team coach dependant on skill level (e.g. 3rd line -2004/2005 to 2nd line 2003/2004).
5. On-ice lines will be timed and change overs will occur simultaneously at 60-90 (yet TBD) second intervals.
6. There will be a dedicated time keeper to manage line changes
7. Each line will play within their own age limits (e.g. 1st vs. 1st, 2nd vs. 2nd, 3rd vs. 3rd)
8. A whistle will signify each line change. Once the line change is signalled the puck will remain in its resting position until players from the following line retrieve it. (We anticipate a race to the puck at each line change).  

General Rules

1. Teams are requested to be ready for their game 5 minutes before the scheduled game start time.
2. On ice, warm up is 3 minutes.
3. Game time is 3 periods of 15 minutes each.
4. Game time is running time except for the last 2 minutes of the third period which is stop clock.
5. Any penalty starts from the first face off after the penalty (as normal) but the time served will be running time.
6. Penalty box is adjacent score box inner side of team bench.
7. If the penalty ends during a break in the game, for example offside, the player must wait until the game starts again to be able to get back on the ice.  
8. Breaks between periods is 2 minutes.  
9. Every game is worth 3 points. If the game ends in a draw, there will be 3 min extra time play 3 on 3 and if is still draw it will be shootout.
10. Overtime win is 2 points, overtime loss is 1 point.
11. The tournament is in round robin format. The team that gets the most points after playing every team is the top team etc. If two or more teams are on tied points the standings will be determined in a following order:  
    1. The winner of the game between the teams that are tied on points.
    2. If more than two teams tied on points, the standings will be determined by the goal difference between the teams that are tied.
    3. If the results are still tied, the standings will be decided by the goal difference in the whole tournament.
    4. If the scores are still tied, the standings will be decided by the amount of goals scored in the tournament.
    5. If the scores are still tied, the final standings will be decided with flipping the coin. This is where the teams in question will decide who makes the call “heads or tails.” The tournament director will flip the coin.
12. For any possible suspensions, there will be a Disciplinary Committee: The tournament director and referees in charge of the game. The committee will decide on any possible disciplinary matters.
13. If a team wishes to make a protest, they will need to do so in writing within 30 minutes following the completion of the game. A protesting team will be required to pay a $100 deposit which will be returned if the protest is successful. The written protest and the deposit must be given to the tournament director directly.  
14. Any possible damage to the venue will be directly invoiced to a team that has done the damage.
