Upcoming out of town training camps and coaching clinics

There’s many training camps for young players planned all over the South Island over the next few months. These training camps and sessions will include top notch national and international coaches.

Leslie coaching academy in Queenstown

Queenstown will be hosting a U13/U16 development camp on May 2nd and May 3rd with guest coach Nate and Bob Leslie.

They’ll also be a goaltender camp with Hockey Canada Goalie Coach, Perry Wilson.

The camp is open to players of all skill levels, from novice to advanced players.

Cost for one player is $160 and discounts are available for families sending many kids.

8th Annual Lake Tekapo Queens Birthday Weekend U16 Skills Clinic

The Mackenzie Ice Hockey club will be hosting a coaching clinic for youth players aged from 6 to 16 on Queens Birthday weekend in Tekapo. The clinic will include:

• 4 90-minute on-ice training sessions focused on developing each players individual skills ;
• high Intensity and maximum ice use – practices planned and include skill focused cross-ice games ;
• one coach per 5 players, providing help to the player ;
• two off-ice sessions providing ideas for improving skills away from the ice ;
• two hockey and life-skill educational classroom sessions for parents and players ;
• two hours of game-time on Monday (2 games – teams based on skill level and ability)
• a great line-up of coaches: Janos Kaszala (Ice Blacks Coach), Dave Le Comte (ex Ice Blacks coach), James Campbell (ex Ice Black) and other top players ;
• Janos is hoping to bring the new Thunder Goalie to help aspiring goaltenders ;
• hot pools at Alpine Springs available as an extra at a negotiated discounted price.

2015 NZIHF Goaltending Clinics (Players & Coaches)

The New Zealand Ice Hockey Federation is conducting a series of Goaltending Camps in New Zealand throughout April and early May 2015.

The camps are being coached by Perry Wilson, Goaltending Coach with Hockey Canada.

Perry has a wealth of experience with Canadian National Teams, and most recently assisted with the NZ U18 National Team.

Camps are being held in Christchurch (3-6 April), Gore (17-20 April), Auckland (22-27 April) and Queenstown (2-4 May).

Two types of camps will be offered:

1. Goaltending Clinic. This is for goaltenders of all ages and grades.
2. Coaches Clinic. This is aimed at aspiring goaltender coaches of all ages and grades.
