Premier League and Dunedin Ice Hockey League Underway

The premier checking league and social non-checking begin tonight – see https://dunedinicehockey.hellyer.kiwi/2013/03/08/autumn-premier-leaguedihl-teams-schedule/ for teams and schedule. Anyone who has missed out on a team email operations@dunedinicehockey.hellyer.kiwi and you’ll be added or put on the reserve list for when a player doesn’t turn up.

Players please bring a cheque or cash tonight when you come to play to help clear that debt if you have one.

Any players that have club tops please bring them along and put them back in the pile, as we need these tops to put the teams on the ice.

While you’re looking around for club gear, the club is declaring an amnesty on returning any club pucks that you might have in your bag. We have tremendous difficulty buying pucks to use in our rink, as most pucks are made from recycled car tyres in Slovakia. Unfortunately these pucks break glass at a tremendous rate – we have been through 14 panes of glass in the last 14 months. We therefore find it very difficult to source pucks, so please find any that you have in your room or bag and return them to the club.

Upcoming Holiday Camps

Next month the DIHA is hosting top international coaches from Sweden who will be running a coaching course 20 – 21 April for aspiring coaches, and a youth camp (U13, U16 and U19 players all eligible) from 22 – 26 April. Further information and registration forms will be out in the next few days.

There will be no DIHA holiday camp during the upcoming holidays, the next DIHA camp will be 15 – 19 July.

Homestay Wanted for German Student

I am the homestay co-ordinator at Kaikorai Valley College and we have a 16 year old boy coming from Germany to study from July to December who plays ice hockey and because our school is situated so far away from the stadium I was wondering if you might be able to ask your members if there is anyone who would be interested in hosting him for this time as I believe they have a lot of gear to take to practise and his mother is worried about how he will get it there.  The areas that we have school buses would be Wakari, Halfway Bush, Brockville, Green Island, Concord, Abbotsford , Fairfield and  Mornington and we pay $215 a week.  I would really appreciate it if you could ask around the families and let me know if anyone is interested.

Thanks again

Regan and Paris Fundraiser

Hi All,

My name is Paris Heyd and along with Regan Wilson we are the two players from the Dunedin Thunder to be selected to represent New Zealand at this years World Champs.

We are holding a fundraiser/club night next Saturday (the 16th) that will involve skating, games, raffles, a movie for the kids, and the chance for some of the family or friends that don’t usually play hockey to give it a go! The event will start at 4.30pm at the ice rink, it will be $10 for skating and $20 if you want to play the game. We are asking for people to bring a long plate of food or nibbles to share and there will also be drinks available! So come along and meet the other club members and join us in what should be an evening of fun, games and laughter!

Hope to see you all next Saturday!

Paris

NZ Reps

Best of luck to our NZ reps who are in action over the coming weeks. Jacob Hurring, Joe Orr and Ben Roth have all just landed in Chinese Taipei where they will be playing in the IIHF U18 Division III vs China, Mexico, Bulgaria and Chinese Taipei. First game is tomorrow! Zanzee Piekak-Jones, Stephanie Patchett and Megan Gilchrist, along with assistant coach Sophia Leon de la Barra will be playing for the Ice Fernz at Division IIA in Auckland in early April vs Austria, Hungary, Poland, Italy and Slovakia. That’s a very high level pool so best of luck to the team and encourage your Auckland friends to get out and support them. Lastly Regan Wilson and Paris Heyd, along with former Thunder players Rick Parry and Cameron Frear, and assistant coach Janos Kaszala will be travelling to Turkey in mid-April to play Bulgaria, China, Israel, Mexico and Turkey.

It’s great to see so many of our home grown players coming through at the top level, and we wish them all the best.
