Skate of Origin 2010

The New Zealand Ice Hockey Federation is proud to announce the second annual NZIHL Skate Of Origin for 2010! The game will be played on Saturday September 18th at 7:00pm at the Queenstown Fun Centre.

Skate of Origin is an ice hockey game played by New Zealand Team eligible NZIHL all-stars. This contest will pit mate against mate, as players will represent the island on which they first played the game of ice hockey in New Zealand.

The North Island Team will boast players from all five NZIHL Teams and will face the very best players to ever come out of the South Island. The game will also serve as trial for the 2011 New Zealand Ice Blacks for some players as they begin to prepare for the Division II World Championships in Melbourne in April.

Last year, the North Island prevailed in a shoot-out victory in one of the most closely fought games of the season. This year the South Island is out for revenge on their home soil! This will surely be a game for the ages.

The winner will earn the right to hoist the Glass Family Shield. The stunning wooden shield that is named after the Glass Family of the South Island with three generations of contributors and builders of the sport within New Zealand. Ben Glass is a founding member of the NZIHF and Patron of the SIHL. Graeme Glass is the Past President of the NZIHF and recently inducted Life Member, and of course recent Ice Blacks Captain, Simon Glass.

It is set to be a fast, hard hitting game and is the last chance to see NZIHL action in 2010. Tickets will available for purchase at the door.
