A great game was played by the Thunder last night. Final score 5-2 to the Stampede after Braden Lee put away an empty net to close out the 4-2 lead they had late into the 3rd period.
The Thunder played an amazing game, with great intensity, and penalty killing being something that really stood out for them. Great structure to their systems meant Jeff (Mansfield, goalie) didn’t have to face too many quality shots on the PK (penalty kill). Even five on three they did very well despite being down a couple of key penalty killers with Mike Sam and Duncan Sykes apparently out with injuries.
Caleb MacDonald opened the scoring, putting the Thunder up 1-0 early in the first with a blast from the point off a loose puck. Really stepped into his slapper and placed it just inside the left post stick-side on Stevo! Second goal came from Peter Lamb with Paavo Huhtinen forcing the puck through to the goaltender from behind the net causing the Stampede goalie to give up a rebound straight to Petes backhand, of course he made no mistake on that one. Another stick side tally… interesting…
Really well played game by the Thunder squad, with a few unlucky chances which could have gone either way. Lets look to get as many people as we can supporting the boys in the upcoming games as a little more cheering may give them the edge they need! Nice job boys!
